OUR STORY

VZA was born out of a burning passion to experience the ultimate in dynamic live sound on my home sound system.

In the February 1989 issue of HiFi Answers, I came across a review by Jimmy Hughes covering the Impulse H1 horn speaker that left a lasting impression on me. At the end of the review, Jimmy said something I have never heard a reviewer say before. He said, "I have to say, they are the finest speakers I have ever heard." This is something a reviewer can only say once in his lifetime.

Earlier in the article he said, “Horn loading achieves a unique immediacy and realism which makes music more expressive and involving, and it isn’t easy for conventional direct radiating speakers to offer comparable performance."  This review really grabbed my attention. It was a pivotal moment for me and the start of a very long and rewarding journey.

When I first started researching how to design horns, I quickly discovered that there was very little information available on horn design. In fact, it was almost nonexistent for all practical purposes, especially during the early days of the internet.

As someone who firmly believes in the power of prayer and God's guidance in our lives, I embarked on this journey of discovery in prayer. I found the process of development to be almost supernatural, waiting for revelation, guidance, gaining understanding and insight.

It was a journey of faith, determination, anticipation, and patience, knowing that I would always receive the answers to my questions. For me, it was a valuable lesson in what can be accomplished when we put our trust in God, for He is faithful, and His promises are always fulfilled. 

Through continuous progress, I have successfully surpassed several widely accepted limitations of horns.

To this day I am still designing and building horns, always striving for improvement, better performance, and finding easier and more efficient ways to design and build them. 

I have a personal passion to always improve the performance of my horn speakers.   There is always better sound, bigger sound and more powerful sound on the horizon, and I need to find it. 

It's a never-ending journey that I'll keep on pursuing as long as I'm around. It is a thrill and an absolute joy to pursue this magnificent technology.
